International Kikisake-Shi (Sake Service Institute)

International Kikisake-Shi badge in gold with gold lettering.

An International Kikisake-Shi is a professional sake sommelier/sommeliere capable of providing and selling sake in the native language and culture of each country. The International Kikisake-Shi course is therefore an intense, comprehensive survey of the production and service of Japanese alcoholic beverages in various countries. This course is accredited by the Sake Service Institute, which conducts qualification testing and certifies every participant who meets its rigorous standards with the title of International Kikisake-Shi (Sake Sommelier/Sommeliere).

Testing is conducted in accordance with examinations for the Japanese Kikisake-Shi certification and governed by the Sake Service Institute. However, in light of diverse global cultures and customs, and the evolving realities of sake markets, participants outside of Japan are assessed within a broader international framework. Testing and qualification are therefore in languages other than Japanese.

Certified Specialist of Wine (Society of Wine Educators)

Certified Specialist of Wine badge in maroon and white with maroon lettering.

The Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) examination tests a candidate’s knowledge of wine, and mastery over key elements in viticulture and wine production. The CSW certification is widely regarded and recognised by the wine and spirits industry. This course is taught by Joshua Kalinan, who holds the record for the first Singaporean to achieve the Certified Wine Educator (CWE) qualification, in 2014.

The examination comprises 100 multiple-choice questions, drawn exclusively from the CSW Study Guide. Candidates are given one hour to complete the examination. CSW examinations are available only at Pearson VUE Testing Centre in Singapore, at the candidate’s preferred time.
